Have you ever tried experimenting and adding nuts to your coffee? But the resulting delicacy is of a completely different quality and taste.
Modern coffee gourmets prefer to change traditional recipes in favor of newfangled trends. New syrups and crumbs are added, new aftertastes of the drink are developed. Anything that can help enhance and emphasize the beneficial taste of a morning drink is now used as an addition to it. This is how coffee with nuts appeared in a wide variety of variations.
Everyone can decide for themselves how to prepare coffee to get a nutty taste. You can choose the type and integrity of nuts, the type of coffee beans, the presence/absence of cream/milk. And you will still get an exquisite aroma and light taste of nutty coffee.
Traditional hazelnut coffee
Initially, this delicacy was prepared using approximately the same technology as Americano today. The delicacy is easy to prepare at home, with just a couple of ingredients. To prepare a wonderful delicacy with nutty notes, prepare:
- Coffee beans – 80 g;
- Hazelnuts – 40 g;
- Water – 200 ml;
- Granulated sugar – 2 tsp;
- Cinnamon – ½ tsp.
Cooking method:
- Before preparing the treat, grains and nuts must be properly fried. This can be done either in the oven on a baking sheet or in a dry frying pan.
- After roasting, grind the grains and grind the nuts until they become dusty.
- Pour the resulting mixture with water and place in a pot over low heat.
- After boiling, strain the drink, add sugar and pour into cups.
- The finished delicacy prepared in this way has a pronounced nutty aftertaste. Hazelnuts are a classic addition to coffee drinks, but you can experiment with other types, and even hazelnuts.
Tip No. 1: To prepare a treat for this recipe, you can use the nuts that you love.
Tip #2: If the nuts differ in size from the grains, it is better to fry them separately to avoid unwanted burning.
Coffee with nuts – undeniable benefits in numbers
The study, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, is the largest study examining the link between nut consumption and heart health. The researchers decided to study the relationship between specific types of nuts and the incidence of cardiovascular disease.
The study, which lasted about 32 years, examined the health of more than 210,000 people. Participants self-reported medical history, lifestyle, and health status every two years.
The study found a strong association between total nut consumption and cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease.
In addition, it has been proven that eating walnuts at least once a week reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease by 19%, and the risk of coronary heart disease by 21%. Those who eat peanuts or tree nuts at least twice a week reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease by 13% and their risk of coronary heart disease by 15%.
Overall, participants who consumed five or more servings of nuts per week had a 14% lower risk of cardiovascular disease and a 20% lower risk of coronary heart disease than participants who rarely or never consumed nuts.
“Our findings support recommendations to increase consumption of a variety of nuts as part of a healthy diet to reduce the risk of chronic disease in the general population.”
, said lead author of the study Marta Guasch-Ferre.
In addition, studies show that coffee is beneficial for heart health. The analysis was developed from the Framingham Longitudinal Heart Study, which provides information about cardiovascular health based on certain diets. The Framingham Study began its history back in 1948 with the recruitment of 5,209 men and women aged 30 to 62 years in the town of Framingham, Massachusetts. All participants were free of symptoms of cardiovascular disease or stroke at baseline. In 1971, the group of subjects was replenished with a second group - already descendants of the first group. And then it was replenished in 2002 and 2003. Thus, this was the longest multigenerational study. Over the years, careful monitoring of the Framingham Study population has identified major risk factors for cardiovascular disease and provided valuable information about their impact.
Research has shown that drinking coffee has a significant impact on cardiovascular health. Compared to those who did not drink coffee, those who drank coffee had a 7% lower risk of heart failure and an 8% lower risk of stroke with each additional cup of coffee consumed per week. The results of this study will be presented at the 2021 American Heart Association Scientific Sessions.

Classical
For this recipe, coffee is brewed as usual. Below is just one traditional option. You can use another one, depending on your taste.
Ingredients (for two small cups):
- 120 ml water;
- 2 tsp. freshly ground coffee;
- sugar to taste;
- 1 tsp. peeled pine nuts.
Cooking method:
- Roast the nuts over low heat until lightly browned and fragrant. 4-5 minutes is enough for this. The surface of the kernels will become glossy - this is the release of the oil included in their composition.
- Pour coffee into a heated pot and heat for a few seconds over low heat.
- Add sugar.
- Pour cold water and stir. Cook over low heat.
- When foam appears, carefully remove it and place it in preheated cups. Stir the liquid.
- Repeat the previous step twice.
- As soon as the drink begins to rise, immediately remove from heat. Do not allow it to boil under any circumstances.
- Add roasted pine nuts to the brewed coffee. To enhance the aroma, press them down a little.
- Pour the drink into cups. It is not necessary to strain; after the nuts lie at the bottom, they will be saturated with liquid, become soft and acquire a coffee aroma.
