Modern gourmets inherited the recipe for spiced coffee from the distant past. Coffee lovers are well aware of the ways to prepare an invigorating drink with vanilla, cinnamon, and, of course, pepper. A variety of types of pepper are used - red, pink, black, white, allspice. Today we will prepare some basic pepper coffee recipes.
Coffee with pepper recipe of the Iranian Shahs
It is clear that to prepare the drink you will need ground coffee and ground pepper. Which to choose? The most commonly used are black and allspice. They give coffee a deep taste and help the aroma to develop. Ground red pepper provides a spicy flavor, as do chili peppers, which are very good with Latin American coffee, such as Brazilian.
Pepper helps mask the drink's shortcomings. Eastern merchants knew this secret several centuries ago, therefore, if coffee beans acquired a stale smell or lost their aroma during long-term storage, they were fried with pepper. Perhaps this is where the tradition of making this drink came from?
Many people believe that the recipe came to us from Turkey, but this is not so. Coffee with pepper was drunk long before the drink came to the Turks. According to some reports, the birthplace of this coffee is Iran, and the recipe is several hundred years old.
Pepper in no way weakens the effects of caffeine on the body; on the contrary, it exacerbates the stimulating effect of coffee. Reduce the stimulating effect of milk, cream, sugar, and among spices - cardamom grains. There are many variations based on the basic recipe. Let's prepare some of the most popular options for coffee with pepper, which you can pamper yourself with and surprise your guests.
Coffee with red pepper
This option can be prepared in two ways.
With red ground pepper
Required ingredients:
- Ground red hot pepper - on the tip of a knife.
- Coffee – 2-3 spoons
- Water – 150 ml
- Cane sugar – ½ – 1 teaspoon
Pour ground coffee into a heated pot and warm it slightly over the fire again. Fill with water and wait for the foam to rise.
Remove the Turk from the heat and put sugar in it.
If you don’t like sweet coffee, then you can limit yourself to literally half a teaspoon. Sugar will add special expressiveness to the drink.
Then add the main ingredient - red pepper. The spicier the variety, the less it will be needed. For example, you need very little chili powder, literally a homeopathic dose. Regular ground red pepper will be appropriate in the amount “at the tip of a knife.”
We put the Turk on the fire, once again wait for the foam to rise, remove and leave to infuse for 1-1.5 minutes.
To soften the taste, a teaspoon of butter is often added to this drink. This gives the coffee a pleasant creamy flavor. The main thing is that the oil is real and fresh.
With red pepper
If you like a spicy taste, then use fresh pepper rather than ground pepper.
In order to get an unusual, tonic and warming drink, you will need a pod of fresh hot pepper.
Brew the coffee as usual, bringing it to the third crema. As soon as the Turk is removed from the heat, put a pepper pod in it and cover with a saucer. Let it brew for 1-3 minutes. The longer the drink sits, the spicier it will be.
Remove the pod from the cezve and pour the coffee.
Fresh peppers can be cut into small strips and placed directly into cups, pouring hot coffee over them. Each sip of this drink will give you more and more spice.
Hot pepper is a strong tonic; it is not recommended for use by people with diseases of the cardiovascular system and stomach.
Coffee with red pepper perfectly warms and stimulates blood circulation. It is useful to use in cold weather, and it is very good for invigorating.
How to make coffee with pepper at home?
It is recommended to use natural ground coffee, brewed in a Turkish coffee pot or coffee machine, as a base. This is what will allow you to prepare a tasty and aromatic drink. But pepper can make even instant coffee tastier, so feel free to experiment.
A pepper coffee recipe can include only these two ingredients, or be supplemented with sweeteners and other herbs and spices. Also, great variety is provided by the use of different types of pepper, since each gives the finished product a specific taste and aroma.
