Coffee combined with cola is a budget-friendly and very effective energy drink that gives you energy for several hours, sometimes even throughout the night. It is often used by students during a session, workers who spend the night doing a report or presentation, and night partygoers who want to dance the night away without feeling tired. What is it about it, and why is it so effective?
The effect of coffee and cola
Caffeine invigorates, everyone knows that. Coca-Cola is sweet, and the brain needs this glucose, especially during periods of active mental activity. But in combination they give a much greater effect than individually.
Carbon dioxide, which is found in cola, has the ability to irritate the mucous membranes, including the walls of the stomach and intestines, where absorption of substances from food or liquids occurs. Irritation causes blood flow, vasodilation, and since caffeine also enters the body along with cola, it is absorbed much faster and more actively. That is, the peak caffeine content in the blood is reached several times faster.
Cola already contains caffeine, which is why the effect is so powerful and noticeable.
Within a few minutes after drinking coffee and cola you will feel the effect:
- Heartbeat accelerates;
- The pulse quickens;
- Consciousness becomes clearer;
- Drowsiness and fatigue go away;
- Adrenaline is produced, you don’t want to sleep at all;
- Caffeine stimulates brain activity, making you think faster;
- The ability to concentrate and work appears.
Restrictions
Even a healthy person is not recommended to drink a cocktail of coffee and Coca-Cola more than once every two weeks. The load on the body is too great. But in some cases such a drink is strictly prohibited, these include:
- pregnancy and breastfeeding periods;
- age less than 18 years;
- kidney disease;
- vascular and heart diseases or abnormalities in their functioning;
- diseases of the nervous system;
- gastrointestinal diseases;
- diabetes;
- increased irritability, anxiety, depression;
- sleep disorders.
Benefits of energy drink coffee + cola
There are several reasons to choose this option if you want to cheer up:
- It is cheap. A 0.5 bottle of cola + 2 bags of instant coffee will cost about 2-3 times less than buying a 0.5-liter can of energy drink.
- This is a relatively natural product. In any case, compared to the composition of the average ready-made energy drink, coffee and cola contain much fewer chemical ingredients, which means there are fewer risks of allergies, and the body somehow accepts this composition more easily.
- It's easy to prepare. Recipes for home energy drinks can include a variety of ingredients, from a simple tincture of Eleutherococcus, which you will have to go to the pharmacy for, to sports stimulants that are sold only in selected stores. But coffee and cola can be bought at any store or kiosk.
- This gives a quick effect. Within a few minutes you will feel a feeling of vigor, clarity of mind, and physical energy.
Contraindications and recommended dosages
There are some contraindications to drinking coffee and cola. Energy drinks should not be consumed:
- pregnant women and mothers breastfeeding,
- children under 14 years of age,
- people with kidney, cardiovascular and nervous system diseases.
If there is at least one contraindication, then with the question of whether it is possible to mix a coffee drink and cola, it is better to contact a specialist.
The recommended dosage is 2 sachets of instant coffee or 2 tablespoons of natural coffee per half liter of cola.
Who can benefit from an energy drink made from coffee and cola?
You shouldn’t just drink it to cheer yourself up. This is a powerful energy drink and should only be used in emergency situations, preferably not too often. Using it will help:
- To students during the session. Especially if you need to do relatively mechanical work - drawing, rewriting. However, cola and coffee help to “turn on” the brain, so the mixture is also suitable for learning new information. Cheap and reliable option.
- For work at night. You can go broke buying ready-made energy drinks, but cola and coffee simply won’t let you fall asleep and will support and stimulate activity. Suitable for those who work the night shift in a call center, and for those who do physical labor - unloading goods.
- Drivers. Guaranteed to invigorate, keep you awake, and banish drowsiness. Cheap and effective.
- For nightlife lovers. Dancing the night away after a hard day at work is easy if you drink a bottle of cola with coffee or drink small sips throughout the night. But the next morning you need to sleep!
- Athletes. Drink this energy drink an hour before training, and your endurance will increase and you will be able to train much more effectively. Caution in combination with cardio!
Doctors do not recommend drinking cola with coffee more than twice a week and more than two bottles of energy drinks per night.
Cautions
You also need to take into account that caffeine does not provide energy, but stimulates its production from the body's reserves. This entails not the most pleasant consequences. The effect of cola with coffee is rapid and intense, but a person receives a jump in activity on credit, paying for it with internal resources, which in the end will still have to be replenished with food and sleep. Often, after a fruitful and vigorous night, physical and mental exhaustion occurs and sleep is disturbed.
In addition, in the pursuit of productivity and in the fight against sleep, some people forget about a sense of proportion. For a healthy adult, the daily caffeine intake is on average 400 milligrams, and a single dose is approximately 150-200 milligrams. Exceeding the norm leads to intoxication of the body: nausea, stomach cramps, arrhythmia, irritability, headaches, insomnia, and a feeling of groundless anxiety.
If the effect of cola with coffee is zero or insignificant, then you need to recognize the ineffectiveness of this remedy, and not mix a new cocktail, increasing its volume. The results of such experiments will be disastrous: a person will receive nausea, discomfort and headaches instead of vigor and increased attention. It is better to look for other methods and sources of energy. For example, you can go to bed for a couple of hours, and then get to work with a replenished supply of strength.
Coffee and cola recipes
Everything is simple here. Anyone can make an energy drink with coffee and cola, there are no special canons or proportions, use your own guidance or use our tips. In any case, you definitely don’t need to measure anything with scales.
Maximum effect: natural coffee with cola
Brew natural coffee in double or triple concentration, using 2 or 3 times less water than you usually pour. If you are using a coffee machine, make espresso. You can even just pour boiling water over the ground grains and let it brew for 5-7 minutes.
Refrigerate the drink, or use plenty of ice. Warm coffee with cola is not tasty.
Pour coffee into a cup and add about 250 ml of cola. Can be drunk with ice.
For extra vivacity, you can squeeze a slice of lemon into a glass.
Fast and cheap: instant coffee and cola
Buy instant coffee and cola. If conditions allow and there is a cup, pour a third of a teaspoon of coffee into the cup, carefully add cola, because it will foam. Stir with a spoon and drink. If conditions are spartan, pour the coffee directly into the bottle. Cover and stir gently with gentle movements to dissolve the coffee. Open carefully, the drink will probably splash and may foam.
Use pure instant coffee, not 3 in 1! Powdered milk with cola, of course, will keep you up all night, but it won’t be the effect you were hoping for.
The taste of the holiday: coffee, cola and cognac
It’s also a good energy drink, but if you don’t need to engage in mental work, but only require physical activity, and you don’t drive a car. Very invigorating and at the same time slightly relaxing.
Mix coffee, cola and add a couple of tablespoons of cognac (or vodka) per 0.5 liter of drink. Possible effect of slight intoxication! You will hardly be able to think productively, but you will be able to dance all night or move actively.
Use regular cola for this recipe; diet cola will make you more intoxicated!
Contraindications
This drink, despite its popularity, is not suitable for everyone. It should be avoided:
- Pregnant and lactating women (however, any energy drinks are contraindicated for them);
- Children under 14 years old;
- Persons with individual intolerance or hypersensitivity to caffeine;
- People with diseases of the cardiovascular system;
- People with kidney diseases;
- People with diseases of the nervous system.
After consumption, increased heart rate may occur. A large dose of caffeine suddenly enters the body, and it perceives it as intoxication. The following short-term effects are possible:
- Tachycardia;
- Frequent urination;
- Nausea;
- Stomach upset.
Usually all these symptoms go away within 10-20 minutes, so there is nothing to worry about. Drink water and breathe deeply, or vomit the drink if you feel very sick.
Recipes
To make an energy shake at home, you can use both ground and instant coffee. The most aromatic coffee and cola recipe requires a sequence of actions.
- Brew coffee in a Turk in the proportion of 1-1.5 tsp. ground coffee to 120-150 ml of water, cool.
- Add 50 ml Coca-Cola, 1 tbsp. l. cream;
- For extra cooling, add a few ice cubes.
Ground coffee is better suited for preparing a drink due to its rich aroma and taste.
If you don't have time, you can quickly prepare instant coffee and add the rest of the ingredients in the same proportions. To make an alcoholic cocktail, which is often offered in bars, you need to combine the following ingredients:
- 50 g cognac;
- 400-500 ml Coca-Cola;
- 2 tsp. instant coffee.
First, combine coffee with cola, let it brew for 1 hour, then add cognac. You can put ice on it. This is the so-called energy drink plus, in which the coffee component is in perfect harmony with the alcohol component. This cocktail is ideal for parties that last until the early hours.
Conclusions:
- Coffee with cola is an excellent energy drink, powerful in action, and at the same time with a minimum of chemical ingredients.
- Best suited for physical activity over a long period, mental activity may decrease somewhat, but nevertheless, you will think pretty quickly.
- Do not mix with warm coffee, cool it, otherwise it will be very tasteless.
- Do not add cream or milk. Imagine the taste of milk and cola. May cause severe stomach upset.
- An approximate recipe is 2 tablespoons of natural or 2 bags of instant coffee per 0.5 liter of cola.
Reviews
Yuri O.: “This drink saved me during the summer session. It’s stuffy, makes me sleepy, I had to cheer myself up somehow. And here is a very pleasant soft drink that acts (at least for me) like a cold shower. True, it also had an effect on me as a laxative; the combination of carbonated cola and coffee was very unusual for the body. Fortunately, these troubles ended quickly."
Igor G.: “Coffee with cola is a drink for truck drivers when they need to stay alert while driving. However, I only used this product a couple of times. I know that it is not recommended to abuse it; you can drink it only in exceptional cases.”
Vera P.: “Of course, I already knew that coffee and cola have a powerful effect on the body, but the drink that I prepared for myself in order to finish my coursework overnight was simply killer. I first added a little mineral water to Coca-Cola (about a 3:2 ratio) because I didn’t want the drink to be too sweet. Then I combined it with instant coffee. What happened... Probably, mineral water is still superfluous in this recipe. I don't advise anyone to experiment. It took a few minutes to calm down a little, but then the work went well, I managed to get everything done by the appointed time.”
