Ice latte recipes

How to make an iced latte? If you want to treat yourself to a delicious coffee cocktail, you can use one of the recipes offered below.

There are 2 options for preparing an iced latte:

  • manually;
  • using a blender or shaker.

Let's look at each option in more detail.

Handmade Iced Latte Recipe

To prepare an iced coffee drink, take the following ingredients:

  • ½ glass of milk;
  • 60 ml freshly brewed espresso;
  • 1 teaspoon syrup;
  • 6-8 ice cubes.

Let's start cooking:

  1. First of all, you need to brew fresh espresso. You can prepare a latte base using any recipe. In our case, we prepare espresso at the rate of 1 tablespoon of freshly ground beans per 60 ml of water.
  2. Leave the prepared espresso and let it cool.
  3. Now you need to boil the milk until foam appears, and then send it to cool. This is a kind of sterilization of milk.
  4. We take an Irish glass - it is ideal for a cold latte. You need to pour cooled milk into it.
  5. Add syrup to milk. Here we focus on our taste and individual preferences. Some people love refreshing cocktails, so they often use mint syrup, others prefer berry flavors, and for others, a chocolate cocktail will be a treat.
  6. Next, take the ice and carefully drop it into the glass, cube by cube.
  7. Now it’s time to introduce cooled espresso into the drink. Carefully pour the coffee into the glass in a thin stream down the side. This will avoid mixing the layers of the cocktail.

This completes the preparation of a delicious coffee drink. If desired, you can decorate the cocktail with cinnamon, grated chocolate, coconut flakes, crushed nuts or whipped cream peaks.

Preparing cold latte in a blender/shaker

The list of ingredients in this recipe is similar to the previous option for making iced latte. The only difference is in the layer mixing technology:

  1. We start, according to tradition, by preparing the base - espresso. By the way, you can adjust its strength at your discretion. After all, not everyone likes strong coffee, but perhaps, on the contrary, there is a desire to make a more invigorating cocktail. Freshly brewed espresso is sent to cool to room temperature.
  2. Heat the milk until a foamy cap appears and let it cool completely.
  3. Pour the cooled milk into the blender/shaker bowl. By the way, an immersion or stationary blender is better suited for making iced latte, but not with large knives. The latter is suitable for grinding food - it will not beat the drink to the consistency we need. The ideal option is a shaker.
  4. Add syrup to milk. It is better not to experiment with the amount of syrup, since it is sold in concentrated form, and too much in fractional proportions will make the drink unsuitable for consumption.
  5. Whisk the milk and syrup until a homogeneous, slightly foamy consistency is obtained. Add cooled espresso to the resulting milk mass and beat again.
  6. Place ice in a glass. And here it is better to adhere to the specified proportion. A large amount of ice in a cocktail will turn it into a thin and not very tasty drink.
  7. Pour the resulting coffee and milk mixture over the ice.

Must Read: Americano

Similar to the previous option, iced latte can be decorated with various additives. But it is already a tasty drink.

This cocktail will definitely appeal to all coffee connoisseurs. You can also try making an iced latte with decaf coffee. This is for those times when you can’t or don’t want to drink a strong drink, but really want to treat yourself to a coffee cocktail.

Dairy classics: cappuccino, latte and flat white

Reading time: 5 minutes

For many years, coffee with milk has remained one of the most popular drinks in the world. The number of recipes will pleasantly surprise the connoisseur, will amaze the average person with its diversity, and definitely everyone will find a drink to their taste. Few people have heard of Piccolo, Cortado and Espresso Macchiato, but it is certainly difficult to find a coffee lover who is not familiar with cappuccino, latte and flat white.

This “troika” especially stands out in popularity among other recipes; based on these drinks, you can determine the level of understanding and professional skills of the barista. What is it about them that makes most people choose these particular recipes? How are they similar and how are they different?

The coffee shops themselves are to blame for most people not understanding the difference between a cappuccino and a latte. Playing with volumes and not observing the degree of expansion of milk, we came to the conclusion that when we order a cappuccino in one coffee shop and a latte in another, we often get the same drink. All of them are prepared on the basis of espresso with the addition of frothed milk, while the ratio of milk to coffee and the percentage of milk expansion are different.

As for the temperature, there is no specific, exact figure; here you need to take into account what temperature is allowed and what is recommended. According to Specialty Coffee Association standards, the permitted temperature is 50-70°C, and the recommended temperature is 55-65°C. It all depends on the preferences of the guest and his perception of temperature. For a barista, the main thing is not to go beyond these limits, to whisk the milk so that the coffee does not burn and is comfortable.

With espresso it’s not so simple either. Beans that are too acidic and freshly roasted will have a detrimental effect on the milk structure and milk foam. What will happen to the coffee is shown in the photo:

I would recommend using a separate coffee grinder for milk drinks, and selecting the bean not only by “taste”, but also by its synergy with milk.

The milkiest espresso-based coffee drink, originally from Italy. The “latte” category, for me, starts from 240 ml, but I consider a volume of 300 ml to be standard and optimal in all respects. Latte has a soft, creamy milky taste, with a light, non-intrusive taste of coffee. Whipped milk, with an expansion of approximately 10%, is poured, stirring the cream, into one serving of espresso.

Total volume: 300 ml

Espresso: 1 (25-35 ml)

Milk: 250 ml

Foam thickness in finished drink: 0.5 cm

This is balance, harmony of taste. The most popular espresso-based coffee drink. It combines the taste and sweetness of milk in equal parts with the aroma and tartness of espresso. Silky, glossy and enveloping texture, a variety of flavor shades, makes cappuccino unforgettable. The standard cappuccino volume is 150-180 ml, and you will be fabulously lucky if you find such a volume in modern coffee shops. Unfortunately, “our” person drinks coffee by the bucketful, so standards had to be sacrificed in favor of the whims of the guest. Most coffee shops prepare cappuccino with a volume of 220-250 ml, which leads to a violation of the very essence of cappuccino - a loss of taste balance. To prepare cappuccino, milk, frothed with an expansion of 20-30%, is poured, stirring the cream, into one serving of espresso.

Total volume: 150-180 ml

Espresso: 1 (25-35 ml)

Milk: 100-120 ml

Foam thickness in the finished drink: 1-1.5 cm

The absolute opposite of a latte. Rich, bright taste of coffee, softened by lightly whipped milk. Just like cappuccino, its volume is 150-180 ml, but it is prepared with double espresso (Doppio). This is a coffee with character, and the quality of the espresso plays a special role in it. It's much easier to ruin a flat white than you think. If in a latte milk will hide all the roughness of the extraction, then here they will be in first place. It is for its coffee taste that flat white has gained a huge army of fans. Not a large volume, Doppio and whipped milk, with an expansion of 5-10%, is an excellent option for connoisseurs of the rich taste of coffee.

Total volume: 150-180 ml

Espresso: 2 (50-70 ml)

Milk: 100 ml

Foam thickness in the finished drink: 0.25-0.5 cm

Cappuccino, latte and flat white are three classic recipes, and once you understand them, you will definitely choose one of them as your favorite. The main thing that distinguishes them from each other is the amount of milk and the thickness of the foam.

Cappuccino stands at the head of all this, as a basis, as a balance. Latte is a light coffee and milk drink, perfect for those who do not like the strong taste of coffee or are afraid of it in principle. Flat whites are rapidly catching up, if they haven’t already, in popularity of their fellows. Not so long ago it broke into the mainstream of people, but its bright coffee taste was immediately and appreciated.

As you can see, drinks consisting of three identical ingredients can be very different. We hope that thanks to our article you will find your favorite coffee!

Serve iced latte beautifully

The best glassware for cold cocktails are tall transparent glasses or Irish cream glasses with a handle at the bottom. They are placed on a saucer, and a cocktail straw is placed next to it.

If the foam is thick enough and the cocktail contains mint syrup (tarragon, lemon balm) or mojito, take the time to grind the nuts in a coffee grinder and decorate the milk cap with crumbs. A fresh mint leaf on a nut topping or plate will complete the composition. A fresh berry, a slice of kiwi, a nut, a slice of chocolate, indicating their presence in the cocktail, will perfectly complement the serving picture.

Note to those who are watching their waist size. A shot of espresso will not bring you a single calorie, but milk, sugar, syrup, additives include a calorie counter. The average iced latte contains about 100 kcal.

What is it like - iced latte

No one will say about this drink that it is “not ice”! Let's remember the English school curriculum: ice is ice. By association, the drink should be cold. That's right, the iced latte is cold, with ice and the extraordinary taste of a coffee and milkshake.

Creative Italians in coffee matters, who invented the classic latte, have diversified their signature recipe. It’s hot in Italy in the summer and you don’t want to add heat to your body by drinking hot drinks. It’s more pleasant to cool it down with a refreshing, invigorating mix with your favorite flavor.

To make an iced latte, you need the same ingredients as for a regular cocktail of coffee and milk. An additional component to the composition will be ice and a little syrup for a refined taste. Everyone can make an iced latte, just a little time, a little skill and, of course, desire. If it's not summer heat outside, let's prepare for its onset. A glass of this delicious drink will lift your spirits in any weather!

  • whipped cream;
  • milk;
  • caramel syrup;
  • chocolate syrup.

The difference is that two types of syrup (caramel and chocolate) are poured into the bottom of the cup, and whipped cream is placed on top of the milk-coffee mixture.
