How to Make Turmeric Latte, Using Turmeric as an Ingredient for Drinks

I absolutely agree with those who are sincerely in love with coffee and see no alternative to it. But there are still temptations that are difficult to resist. One of them conquered the majority of coffee lovers, and we accepted this drink into our coffee community. I mean matcha latte, which is prepared using latte technology and based on matcha green tea powder.

Another candidate has appeared worthy of the attention of our brotherhood. This is turmeric - a well-known spice with beneficial properties, a unique taste and a beautiful golden color. It is widely used by chefs all over the world to prepare delicious dishes, but the spice also has another “talent”. You can use it to make a wonderful latte.

Some information about turmeric

This is a plant from the ginger family. For culinary purposes, only its root is used, which is similar in appearance to the well-known pot-bellied ginger. Because of this similarity, turmeric is often called “yellow ginger.” It also has other names: “golden spice”, “Indian saffron”.

The aromatic yellow powder obtained from the roots is a powerful natural remedy that was used thousands of years ago by Chinese and Indian healers. The active substance that provides the healing properties of the spice is curcumin. Scientists have proven the advantages of a natural product:

  • turmeric is a natural antibiotic that defeats even the most severe infections, including tuberculosis, and has no side effects;
  • the spice has powerful antioxidant properties, allowing you to prolong youth and maintain an attractive appearance;
  • has immunomodulatory qualities, improves immunity, including due to the ability to protect DNA cells from free radicals;
  • turmeric is an excellent anti-inflammatory agent that fights inflammation at the molecular level (the gastric mucosa is not irritated in a person taking natural medicine);
  • the spice has an antitumor effect and prevents the growth of cancer cells;
  • it can soothe pain and alleviate symptoms of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and musculoskeletal system.
  • Turmeric is effective in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease;
  • Helps cleanse the body of heavy metals.

This list could be continued, but then this article would only be about turmeric. But now no one will object that golden saffron has the right to respect.

Important: turmeric is contraindicated during pregnancy, as it can increase the tone of the uterus. Its use is not indicated in the presence of gallstones and an allergy to curcumin.

Does golden milk help you lose weight?

People who want to lose weight can safely include milk with turmeric in their diet. With a low calorie content (up to 70–75 kcal per 100 g), it saturates the body well, prevents overeating and cravings for sweet foods.

Turmeric has the following beneficial properties:

  • removes excess fluid from the body;
  • accelerates the breakdown of fats;
  • normalizes metabolism - as a result, calories received from food are converted into energy, and not into fat deposits.

B vitamins, which golden milk is rich in, help the body properly absorb proteins, fats and carbohydrates. A person with a healthy metabolism feels energetic and does not gain weight.

How to use turmeric

Vegan gentlemen, who accept food and drink only of plant origin, consume turmeric simply with water. This is their choice and way of life, but we will choose something more interesting for ourselves.

Additional information: Indian spice is diluted in clean water and drunk for various purposes - for treatment, weight loss, relaxation before bed, etc. The simplest recipe for a slightly bitter spicy drink is this: pour ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder into warm water (about 50°) and stir well. To taste and enhance the beneficial qualities, you can add a spoonful of honey.

A popular drink in India is called “golden milk”. They drink it not in the morning to cheer up, but in the evening to relax. A simple recipe looks like this:

  • a teaspoon of turmeric powder, you can take half;
  • glass of water;
  • half a glass of high fat cream;
  • sugar or other sweetener to taste.

Mix the cream with water, heat (can be in the microwave) until warm, add turmeric and beat with a small milk frother (Frapper) or blender. For those with a sweet tooth, the drink can be supplemented with sugar.

But this recipe is clearly not for vegetarians, since it contains cream, and even fat. It is believed that with coconut milk or any other milk of plant origin, turmeric reveals its taste better. Try this option:

  • a teaspoon of turmeric powder;
  • half a glass of water;
  • half a glass of almond, soy or coconut milk;
  • a teaspoon of coconut oil or cocoa butter;
  • sugar or other sweetener to taste.

Add butter to the mixture of water and milk and heat it up, then proceed in the same way as in the first option.

Important: the benefits of turmeric increase if you use it together with pepper! The substance piperine, which is part of black pepper, inhibits the breakdown of the healing component curcumin. As a result, the effect of using golden saffron increases.

Recommendations for preparing and using a drink with turmeric

To activate the healing drink, in addition to turmeric, you must use black pepper and oil or another ingredient containing fat. The drink is consumed warm. The effect of golden milk is based on the content of curcumin, which affects the body in the same way as cortisone, but does not lead to the development of negative reactions. In its pure form, this substance is very poorly absorbed, so the presence of healthy fat is a prerequisite for obtaining a healthy latte. Curcumin is absorbed not only from fat, but also from pepper, which contains piperine, but it must be fresh and of high quality. It is enough to take a pinch of pepper per serving of drink. Honey is added as desired. This component enhances the benefits of latte, but is not required in its composition.

The best time to drink the golden drink is in the morning before meals. In the evening, take a latte to relax and fall asleep faster. You can fully feel its healing effects on the body only after 40 days, not earlier.

You can prepare milk with turmeric throughout the day, the main thing is not to drink it during meals.

Now it's delicious. We will prepare a healthy and wonderful-tasting drink at home.

Ingredients for the miracle drink

For the classic version of making a latte, you need to prepare espresso, milk and, if desired, sweetness in the form of sugar or sweet syrup. The amount of milk according to the standard proportion is three times that of coffee. To ensure that the latte's airy cap lasts longer, experienced coffee lovers advise choosing whole milk. But real voluminous foam is obtained using special devices.

To diversify the taste of the drink, spices are added, and the foam is sprinkled with small chocolate chips or nuts. Using additional ingredients you can create your own unique taste.

Potential harm and contraindications

In large doses, golden milk can cause harm to the body. It is enough to drink 250-300 ml of milk per day with the addition of 1 teaspoon of turmeric paste. If you abuse the drink, you may experience bloating, heartburn, hypoglycemia, and a severe decrease in blood pressure.

If you consume full-fat cow's milk, you may get diarrhea or high blood cholesterol. And when adding too much turmeric to a drink, hair loss and skin problems can occur.

Despite the presence of beneficial properties, golden milk has a solid list of contraindications. The drink should not be consumed in the following cases:

  • pregnancy (especially 1st trimester);
  • lactation;
  • kidney stones, gall bladder;
  • gastritis, ulcer in the acute stage;
  • the presence of internal bleeding, including menstruation;
  • taking blood thinning medications;
  • preparation for surgery;
  • diabetes;
  • inflammatory diseases of the joints, in particular gout.

Children can be given milk with turmeric only from 3 years of age. It is advisable to start with small doses - ¼ teaspoon per glass.

The drink should be taken with caution by hypotensive patients and people with high acidity of gastric juice.
